Microdosing

About this project

Microdosing is an increasingly popular trend amongst psychedelic communities and refers to a practice where individuals consume sub-perceptual amounts of a psychedelic substance (e.g., LSD or psilocybin) every 2-4 days. Sub-perceptual dosage denotes quantities which reportedly do not induce any (conscious) perceptual alterations but allegedly induce creativity and improve mood. The popularity of such claims may be linked to the emergence of microdosing communities that circulate anecdotal evidence. As of now there are few scientific most of which rely on self-report sources.

We conducted a study to investigate the consequences of microdosing with regard to cognitive styles of visual processing, time perception and emotional processing to enhance our scientific understanding of the effects of microdosing. This will also allow informing the general public on previously unrecognized risks and effects of microdosing. In the Netherlands only a few psychedelic substances are allowed legally. Therefore our study is restricted to psilocybin-containing truffles that can be purchased legally through licensed smartshops
